What is the Smithsonian Hiding – Does the World’s Largest Research and Museum Complex Have Proof of Cryptids?

Spanning 163,300 cubic feet, some cryptid-enthusiasts believe that the Smithsonian’s behemoth archives are teeming with secrets and evidence of the unexplained. Here you’ll find grand collections of fossils, gems, ancient artifacts and animal species from around the world, but does that include creatures of the Fortean variety? From Bigfoot to Mothman, is the Smithsonian Institution collecting proof of the unexplained?

The following is an excerpt from page 147 of the book The Inhumanoids: Real Encounters With Beings That Can’t Exist where Mark Boring, resident of Madisonville, TN, and editor of the Monroe County Buzz, recalled a Mothman sighting that resulted in a visit from the Smithsonian,  “Two or three (Mothman)reports would surface per year up until around 1975, Boring claimed. “One of the guys actually claimed to have shot part of the foot off of the ‘birdman’ with a bow. Either a piece of a toe or foot.” He claimed that the Smithsonian came down and asked to take it and investigate, and he never heard from them again.”

Author, Barton M. Nunnelly, goes on to say, “His mention of the Smithsonian Institution appearing and whisking away the evidence, never to be seen again, is also quite interesting. Evidently, that organization is well-practiced in the confiscation of not only the remains of mysterious American ‘giants,’ but of Mothman as well.”

Wait, did he say giants? Yes, yes he did.

In part two of the book, Nunnelly discusses potential evidence of the existence of giants in the form of skeletal remains that have been found and reported throughout the world. Often tucked away in Midwestern burial mounds or discovered in mysterious caverns, not a single bone has been preserved nor examined and studied by a proper source.

“Many have accused the Smithsonian of collecting, and destroying most of the evidence pertaining to the existence of these entities; and there are many accounts which support this claim. Giants were, according to them, simply not possible and the existence of such beings would topple too many highly held zoological “facts”. However, they could not collect and destroy all the written accounts of the anomalous skeletal remains and this is pretty much all that is left to go on,” Nunnelly, page 50.

The idea that the Smithsonian obtained and destroyed evidence of giants went semi-viral in 2014 after World News Daily Report published an article called “Smithsonian Admits to Destruction of Thousands of Giant Human Skeletons in Early 1900’s.” However, the piece was examined by popular fact-checking site Snopes and debunked as satire due to conflicting claims and being an unreliable source for legitimate news.
